HELLO ALL!

We’re so glad that you’re interested in learning more about who we are as a church and how we are trying to live out the good news given to us in Jesus Christ. We’d love to meet you in person, and get to know you as well. Worship is probably the best place to start. It is the single event each week that draws most of us together as we gather to hear and be shaped by God’s Word to us in scripture (aka The Bible). Christian Worship these days can mean a whole host of things, depending on who you ask. If you ask us, we’d say we like our worship reverent, joyful, and attentive to the deep roots of Christian tradition that have sustained the church for over two thousand years. We come to worship not out of a desire for personal fulfillment so much as for an experience of standing before the majesty of God alongside those who have gone before us. The music you’ll hear tends toward the classic hymns and composers of the church. But you’ll also hear our choir and guest musicians offer music from across genres and around the world. As composer John Bell has put it, “a church than only hears one kind of music in worship, only expects one kind of person to show up.” We hope to offer worship that is accessible to all kinds of people.

A FEW GOOD REASONS FOR CHECKING OUT LIFE AT FIRST CHURCH

  1. You’ve come to the conclusion that, not only can you not make it on your own, you are tired of trying to.
  2. You find yourself needing more wisdom than can fit on the bumper of your car.
  3. It’s been a rough week/month/year, maybe we can help.
  4. You’re looking for a place to call home, and a group of friends to share it with.
  5. You long to make a difference in the life of someone who wonders if anyone cares.
  6. You suspect there is more to life than your golf score, your 401K, or what’s on the DVR.
  7. Your kids have been taught to win big, but do they know how to pray… do you?
  8. The idea of a place that tries not to be divided along the same old lines appeals to you.
  9. You have questions about the Bible, who Jesus is, and what it means to believe- and so do we.
  10. You are hungry to know God.
