Position Description

 

 

Title:            Custodian – full-time

 

Purpose:      Responsible for custodial duties in preparing for worship services, meetings, classes; general oversight of buildings and grounds’ neatness and cleanliness.

 

Reports to:   Buildings & Grounds Committee of the session, working under the supervision of the Pastor.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assume responsibility for cleaning worship areas, classrooms, halls, bathrooms, kitchens, and meeting rooms of the church facility.

 

  1. Set up rooms for meetings as required.

 

  1. Responsible for with the oversight of minor plumbing, wiring, carpentry, painting, either to undertake on self or bring need to the attention of supervisor.

 

  1. Open and close the church on Sunday morning; handle whatever is necessary in the way of janitorial duties during that time.

 

  1. Care for lawns, shrubbery, parking lots; see that they are well maintained and clean.

 

  1. Responsible for sidewalk shoveling and ice removal to maintain safety of walks up to two inches. Snow removal company anything over two inches.

 

  1. Assume responsibility for special worship services (Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.), or funerals at the church, when required.

 

  1. Open and close the church when there are weddings or receptions; assist wherever there is need for a custodian.

 

  1. Manage the schedule of preventative maintenance needs for the church in conjunction with the buildings and grounds committee.

 

  1. Oversee maintenance of the boiler with the building & grounds committee.

 

  1. Responsible for meeting with contractors on special projects with building and grounds members.

 

  1. Works 40 hours a week. (Friday – 4 hours, Sunday – 4 hours)

 

 

Qualifications:

* Experience with general janitorial tasks, including working with various cleaning agents

* Self-starter who can work independently and require little supervision

* Learns quickly and can apply new ideas to tasks at hand

* Works and communicates well with others (especially with Building & Grounds)

* Positively represents the church to its members, vendors, and guests

* Has access to reliable transportation to/from the church

* Can be flexible to meet the scheduling requirements of the church
